Found this in the drafts…no idea what it was for. August 21, 2008

Everybody knows. Well we all think we know, but we don’t really understand. Not really. You see those things, those tests, were introduced so fast. Of course you would want to know. How could you stand not having a clue? It doesn’t hurt. No side effects they said. Who is they anyway? No side effects. Well I suppose that you could say that. You would be wrong. Curiosity killed the cat. We know what will kill us.
At first there were long waits, appointments made months in advance, just for a little prick. A drop of blood. Then you would have it. We all thought knowing would be better. Help us become better people. Then the wait got shorter, more convenient testing locations arose and soon all it took was a couple of minutes that would change the way we lived our lives. We act on impulse now, the filling in of time with the routine and mundane no longer the norm. tick tock tick tock tick tock….it will stop I know. One day. This day? Please this day.
Laughter fills the crowded room. Clink of glass. Flirty flicks of long, shining well groomed hair. Secret smiles. Smoke haze. Suggestive notes rise and fall from the saxaphone. Gold bands deep in pockets and lying at the bottom of small unobtrusive bags. Manicured nails brush across broad shoulders and knees. A suggestion. An idea. An impulse.
Sunday morning and yet more empty pews. Our quavering voices rise in praise to our creator, our Lord. We ask forgiveness for our sins. We listen intently to our long serving minister as he pleads, tears in his eyes to hold firm. Stay strong. Of course we all think in our heads, we will not go. Each week. We are not God.
So I found this in the drafts, I have no idea why I wrote it. It must have been for a particular purpose but I can’t think why. Anyway thought I would post it although it is unfinished. Its kind of strange.

Ha!
I finally figured out what this story is about:
Machine of Death!
You must have started a short story to enter.
Yes, now I remember!!
