Going Commando! November 24, 2006

Jester is commando crawling with a slight caterpillar action as he tries to get on his knees and crawl!! He is so determined to get places now and the concentration on his face is wonderful to see, although not as wonderful as the huge smile that lights it up as he reaches his destination (for some reason it is usually one of Matty’s toys that Jesse is too young to play with despite appropriate toys right in front of him).

Matty is now pretty much potty trained (yet to tackle the toilet by himself but he will try at home with some help from us). Yay! He will now go by himself without having to be reminded. I am sure that the whole neighbourhood is aware when he makes it in time “Mummmmy MATTY DID A WEE IN POTTY!”  :-)   I do not mind as long as he makes it. At night I still don’t trust him not to wear pull ups although he has been dry for a little while now. If you don’t have kids then you probably don’t know why this deserves mentioning, but trust me: it does! Matty would love to go commando, but after a bit of prompting is happy to wear his brightly coloured monster undies :-) Ahh less and less nappies to do. It is still a long time until I will have no more nappies to change, but less is great for now.

Jester is trying to make sounds amongst his shrieks and squeals of happiness. One of the happiest babies I know (no, no bias here) his daddy and brother are his favorite people and he will sit enthralled by Matty’s funny antics (and not so funny antics). At least he still needs his mummy for cuddles, kisses and of course the most important thing: food. Food, after Ian and Matty is one of the things that he can’t get enough of. Yesterday he ate more than me (I am not sure if that means he ate too much or I too little :-) ) and still wanted more! After finishing a banana he cried and clutched at the air for more. He was satisfied with a song from Matthias ( Jester loves to watch Matty “sing” ).

Matty is getting better at his speech. I have noticed that he will now try to make up stories and songs. Not too many lyrics in his own compositions, but I still think they are cute. Such as ” Hippo, hippo, hippo”, ” I love you Mummy ( or Daddy or Jester), if its quite alright I love you Mummy something, something, something…” (he learnt that from Ian) as well as the nursery rhymes and songs from playgroup and church. Matty will now “read” books to himself at night before bed and in the morning when I am cleaning up the kitchen. He insists on doing it himself and then will try to “read” to Jesse (however things deteriorate pretty quickly if Jester tries to clutch at the book). It is so lovely to see. He is really good at anticipating words in stories that I read him and is slowly learning his letters, I think he really will be a book worm (just like Ian and I ) when he can read properly. He thinks he knows his numbers (up to 10) and will become very frustrated when we try to correct him. I am so thankful that he is learning well. He is still shy around other kids. I have noticed that he will sit back quite a while and just observe before attempting to join in. Matty needs to feel very comfortable in his environment before coming out of his shell.

I love my boys.
